(Persia Digest) – The play “Manus” directed by Nazanin Sahamizadeh is based on the true story of immigrants in Manus and Nauru camps (Manus Regional Processing Center – Australian Immigration), on Manus Island.

The play has been staged at the International Theater Festival of Kerala which is putting behind its tenth edition. It is host to plays from over 30 countries this year, including “Manus” from Iran.

The script has been written by Leila Hekmatnia and Keivan Sarreshteh, narrating the story of asylum seekers who went to Australia, only to be trapped on Manus Island. The play was also staged at the 36th Fajr International Theater Festival which took place this month.

The Kerala Festival has a competitive selection stage. A number of plays were submitted to the Festival from Iran and “Manus” made its way to the event among 30 other plays from around the world.

This is a documented, verbatim play based on interviews carried out by detainees in Manus and Nauru.

Players are Ehsan Bayatfar, Elham Khodaverdi, Nazanin Sahamizadeh, Ebrahim Azizi, Ehsan Karami, Hamidreza Mohammadi, and Nasrin Nakisa.
