(Persia Digest) – The Deputy for Iran’s Cultural Heritage Organization announced: “Currently, the files of 52 prominent historic sites in Iran are waiting to be registered by Unesco World Heritage.”
Mohammad-Hassan Talebian added: “Iran’s annual share of registrations in Unesco is one site. Apart from these 52 sites, the Cultural Heritage Organization is also compiling files for another 50 prominent sites prioritized according to provinces.”
He talked about the criteria for the categorization of sites, and said: “This is done on a fair basis according to the list of provinces, the importance of the site, good management, minimum human intervention, and restoration time prior to Unesco inspection among other factors.”
As reported by Persia Digest, according to the World Tourism Organization, Iran ranks tenth in tourist attractions and historical sites, and fifth in natural attractions. It is also one of the world’s most ancient civilizations. Excavations here have unearthed evidence of life in this area dating back to the Paleolithic period. Sapiens also appeared in Iran 40 thousand years ago.
