(Persia Digest) – The New Year has been celebrated at the Grigor Lusavorich Church in Tehran. Christian and even non-Christian countries celebrate the New Year on 31 December. New Year’s eve is also recognized as the seventh day of Christmas celebrations in western Christianity.
The Holy Grigor Lusavorich Church is in the Majidieh borough of Tehran, first 16th, Jamshid Ruyan St. The church plot was purchased in 1975 with donations made by Armenians resident in this area and the Armenian Caliphate Council in Tehran. A charitable person by the name of Grigor Malikian paid for the construction of the church building, designed by architect Gerard Simonian who began work in 1983. In terms of design and dimensions of the dome, this church is an adaptation of the famous Saint Hripsime Church (618 CE) in the city of Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin), Armenia. Building materials used here include cement, metal, and bricks.
The building work was also completed in 1983, the same year it began.
