(Persia digest)-  Buried in an old wooden house three meters under the ground in a square overlooked by the Moscow Stock Exchange, lay an antique bronze Persian cup belonging to the 16th century. Recently discovered, it displays a poem written by the 14th century Persian mystic and poet Hafez of Shiraz.

This has been translated by experts at the Museum for Oriental Art in Moscow. Other artifacts found here include an axe, a war cap, and coins belonging to the time of Ivan Grozny (Ivan the Terrible). These objects date back to the end of the 16th century and beginning of the 17th century.

Russian experts say this priceless cup was made in Persia and nearly 75% of it is still intact.

Hafez writes of joy, happiness, and feasting in his poem carved around the rim of the cup. Antiquity experts are presently restoring the cup which will be exhibited for public viewing at the Moscow Museum by the year-end.
