(Persia Digest) – The Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, has reacted to the US’ unsuccessful attempts at the UN regarding the unrests in Iran.
He tweeted: “The UNSC rebuffed the US’ naked attempt to hijack its mandate. Majority emphasized the need to fully implement the JCPOA and to refrain from interfering in internal affairs of others. Another FP blunder for the Trump administration. Iran’s statement: goo.gl/CE84yi.”
As reported by Persia Digest, an emergency UN Security Council was held at the request of US representative, Nikki Haley, on the recent unrests in Iran. At the meeting, Europeans and many other countries stressed on their continued commitment to the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement with world powers, officially known as the JCPOA, and said the US must not interfere in the domestic affairs of Iran. The US failed to use the Security Council meeting for its meddling in Iranian affairs.
The emergency meeting was held prior to the date when US President, Donald Trump, must make a decision on certifying the JCPOA nuclear deal in mid-January and the continued suspension of sanctions against Iran.
