Iranian composer wins 2018 Tony Award

(Persia Digest) - Jamshid Sharifi, the Iranian composer, won the 2018 Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for the musical, "The Band’s Visit".

Jamshid Sharifi is an Iranian-American musician who has composed the soundtracks for films, such as “The Thomas Crown Affair”, “The Rugrats Movie”, “Harriet the Spy” and “Clockstoppers”. Sharifi is influenced by the musical elements of the Middle East and Africa which is very impressive and effective. He is famous for composing Hollywood soundtracks and collaborating with the Iranian musician “Mamak Khadem”.

As per Persia Digest’s report, Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre, more commonly known as the Tony Award, awards the achievements of the American theater. Tony Award is considered the highest theatre honor and the most prestigious award in the American theater, equivalent to the Academy Awards (Oscars) for film, the Emmy Awards for television, and the Grammy Awards for music.
