(Persia Digest) – The Iraqi Kurdistan Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani, has landed in Iran for a 2-day visit and has met with President Rouhani.
At the meeting, Iran’s President said: “The IR of Iran always supports a unified Iraq”. He reiterated: “Defending the sovereignty and consolidated borders of the region is the duty of all the countries and ethnic groups living here. Undoubtedly, powers outside the region have not and never will be sympathetic to the people of this region.”
Rouhani emphasized: “All the regional nations, including Iraqi Kurds, must achieve their legitimate rights within the framework of the constitution and territorial integrity of their countries.”
The President also pointed out that Iranian investors were ready to participate in development projects in Iraqi Kurdistan and welcomed their businessmen for a more active role on the Iranian market: “We seek a more prosperous Iran and Iraq in favor of all the people living in this region.”
At the meeting, PM Barzani also said: “We have always sought a unified Iraq and believe that all the sides must adhere to the Iraqi constitution and seek to resolve problems within the law.”
He continued: “We appreciate the undisputed support of Iran for the Iraqi people and government, especially Iraqi Kurdistan, against Daesh terrorist groups.”
Nechirvan Barzani invited Iranian investors to participate in development projects in Iraqi Kurdistan, and supported the continued border operations between Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan, calling to strengthen joint economic cooperation with Iran.
Barezani emphasized that Iraqi Kurdistan will not allow anyone to use their territory to threaten Iran and said this was a red line that would not be crossed by Erbil.
As reported by Persia Digest, Nechirvan Barzani’s first meeting was with Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran. He also has a meeting scheduled with Ali Larijani, Parliament speaker.
The reopening of borders between Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan and the development of relations between the two at all levels will be discussed at the meetings.
