Persian taught in 200 universities worldwide

(Persia Digest) – The Director of the center for Persian as a second language at the Allameh Tabatabaei University in Tehran has said: “Persian is being taught in 200 universities worldwide.”

At the convention on Persian language teaching in the world on Monday, Reza Morad Sahraei added: “Persian is being taught in universities across the Asian continent, and in Iran’s neighboring countries, including Kazakhstan, Turkey, China, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, Russia, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Qatar.”

This faculty member of Allameh Tabatabaei University continued: “Over 20 thousand Persian and Urdu manuscripts are kept at the Iran Pakistan Persian Research Center in Islamabad, Pakistan, and Persian is also taught in over 40 places in India to PhD level.

Sahraei reminded: “A postdoctoral course was also agreed to at the Panjab University in India last week.”

He went on to say: “Thirty-five second language courses are also on offer in Europe, including Athens, Stockholm, and Belgrade, where Persian is the second language being taught.”

Sahraei added: “Other cities in Europe where Persian is taught are Paris, Rome, Sofia, London, Madrid, Vienna, and also Poland. Allameh Tabatabaei University opened the Khayyam Persian language center in Madrid last week.”

He said Persian is being taught in Africa and Australia, and pointed out that fifteen instructors are also at work in the US.

Sahraei said the incentive to learn Persian for the students was to pursue studies in history, orientology, medicine, theology, military science, politics, trade, and tourism.
