(Persia Digest) – The Iranian President has announced: “The powerful youth of our country can provide any means required for our defense. We will not ask permission from anyone for our security.”

Hassan Rouhani was speaking among the people of Bandar Abbas Port, Hormozgan Province, on Wednesday. He added: “We want peace with the world. For as long as the world wants peace with us, without conspiring against the Iranian people and their security, we will keep this strategic path in the region.”

He went on to say: “We would like to declare to the Persian Gulf states that we have been good neighbors to you - past, present, and future. Do not be deceived by others; do not allow outsiders to speak on your behalf; they do not have your best interest at heart; they want to sell their arms to you at a high price and purchase the region’s oil at low prices.”

The Iranian President reiterated: “With the strong, peace loving people of Iran, the Persian Gulf countries can think about forming a large regional union for trade, tourism, the energy sector, and various industries.”

Rouhani continued: “We will never ask permission to manufacture missiles, aircrafts, tanks, and other arms. We do not need outsiders to defend our region. We are ready to hold talks with our neighboring countries to provide security for the region and stand on our own feet without the presence of outsiders.”

He also spoke about the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement, and said: “We will remain committed to our obligations for as long as the other signatories to the deal remain committed. We will remain committed, but will not allow our commitment to be taken advantage of.”
