(Persia Digest) – In a telephone conversation with President Putin of Russia, Iran’s President Rouhani has mentioned certain efforts by countries to kill the Iran nuclear agreement, the JCPOA, and said: “Iran will remain committed to its obligations under the deal for as long as the other signatories are committed to it. To achieve this, it is necessary to stop certain signatories from killing the deal.”

Hassan Rouhani expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation of Iran and Russia regarding the peaceful nuclear program, and stated: “The process of agreements and understandings between the two countries is progressing smoothly and we hope that the signature of the Free Trade Agreement between Iran and Eurasia can speed up the expansion of bilateral and regional relations.”

He also refuted accusations by Washington and Riyadh about Iran sending missiles to Yemen, calling them totally baseless propaganda, and emphasized that these were simply actions by the Trump Administration to weaken the JCPOA.

Rouhani also added: “The IR of Iran is opposed to the presence of foreign troops in Syria without the permission of its government and people.”

During the phone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin also stressed that Moscow intends to expand its ties with Tehran on all levels, and said: “Big Russian companies are actively working to move forward projects and agreements reached between Tehran and Moscow.”

Putin called the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the world powers as very important, and emphasized: “Russia believes that any efforts to weaken the JCPOA are very dangerous for the region and we have directly conveyed this message to our counterparts.”

The Russian President also talked about the negotiations being conducted on the compilation of an MoU regarding the setup of a free economic zone between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union, and said: “With the finalization of this document, cooperation between the two will enter a new stage.”

He continued by talking about the Syrian issue: “As with Iran, Russia also believes that only the people of Syria can decide the future of their country. We are opposed to any decisions from the outside being imposed on the Syrian people and we remain committed to this view.”
