Tehran University Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science faculty member becomes permanent member of the World Academy of Sciences. Siamak Yasemi PhD is a Tehran University faculty member and a member of the IR of Iran Academy of Sciences mathematics department. He has been elected as the permanent member of TWAS.

Iran ranks fourth in nanoscience

Statistics published by Web of Science for end-December 2017 put Iran in fourth place in the world with 8791 articles on nanoscience. With 40% of nanoscience production, Iran also has the largest share of this science in the Islamic countries. Next in line, following Iran, are Saudi Arabia with 13%, Turkey with 11%, and Malaysia with 9%.

Iran and the EU intend to expand cooperation between researchers in Iran, the EU, and with the European Research Council, in the landscape of a 2020 Program. Recent reports in the media talk of new research findings on death, which show that when the heart stops beating, the brain continues to work; thus, when a person is pronounced dead following a cardiac arrest, they are still able to hear the voices around them and witness their own death so to speak. The research is spearheaded by Iranian-British physician, Dr Sam Parnia.

Seventy-eight years ago, on 24 April, the first radio transmitter in Iran began broadcasting from the old Shemiran road studios in Tehran.
