(Persia Digest) – It finally began snowing in Tehran from last night after a long time. Snowfall has continued until now (Sunday morning). Apart from the capital and Tehran Province, other parts of Iran including Kurdistan, Hamedan, Zanjan, Qazvin, Kashan, Isfahan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Shahr-e Kurd, Semnan, Yazd, North, South and Razavi Khorasan, Golestan, Mazandaran, Guilan, and the Central provinces are experiencing heavy snowfall.
Temperatures in Tehran have dropped by 9 degrees centigrade as compared to yesterday, to reach -4 degrees centigrade. According to forecasts, snow in the capital will continue until this afternoon.
All short and long-haul flights have been canceled at Mehrabad International Airport due to reduced visibility and deteriorating weather conditions. Tehran’s main IKA Airport has also announced that all flights have been delayed until 10h00 today 28 January.
All schools in Tehran Province will stay closed this morning and all governmental offices began work with a 2-hour delay at 10h00.
The heavy snowfall in Tehran has also damaged trees and broken branches. Nevertheless, this is the best winter Tehran has had in many years since the beginning of a long-drawn drought. The pollution index for the capital is presently 28, with a median of 68 for the past 24 hours, taking it out of the danger zone.
