(Persia Digest) - The “Leaf of Life” [Barg-e Jān], directed by prominent documentary maker Ebrahim Mokhtari, premiered at the Cinema Museum of Iran last night.
The “Leaf of Life” will also be screened at the Art and Experience Group of Cinemas. Mokhtari got the idea for his feature film around twenty years ago, when he was making the documentary “Saffron”. Now, twenty years later, his idea has been turned into a feature film. This fiction is his second feature film following “Zinat”, which he directed twenty-three years ago. His second movie was made over the course of last year. Mokhtari mentioned an important point at the premiere, and said: “Tonight, I was asked why I have made a film after twenty-three years? I would like to say that I have been making films over these twenty-three years, but I’m not sure why documentaries are not considered to be films! Why does it have to be a feature film?”
The “Leaf of Life” grew out of the “Saffron” documentary. An event that took place during the filming of the documentary in Khorasan led to the script and making of the feature film after two decades. Mokhtari says “I made this into a feature film because the story could not be told in a documentary”; although, he has also used documentary techniques to show the stages of planting and harvesting saffron.
At his premiere last night, Mokhtari honored Saeed Pursamimi who has acted in the film and asked his colleagues to join him by saying: “I would like to invite my friends tonight who have taken part in the making of this movie to come and join me. I don’t want to call them the cast, because they are the makers of the movie. This is a joint effort between all of us and we hope that our audiences will enjoy watching it.”
Present at the premiere were Alireza Tabesh, Mohammad-Ali Sajjadi, Farhad Tohidi, Fa’ezeh Azizkhani, Mojtaba Mir-Tahmasb, Maryam Moghaddam, Behtash Sana’eiha, Mahdi Ghorbanpur, Fereshteh Sadre-Orafaei, Nader Moghaddas, Mahdi Ahmadi, Majid Barzegar, Pedram Sharifi, Ahmad Talebinejad, Mona Zahed, Farzad Tohidi, and members of the press.
