(Persia digest)- According to ILNA News Agency, ‘Voice of the East’ International Music Festival will begin work in Uzbekistan this Friday. The Iranian group ‘Naghsh’ will be guests of the Festival.
The biennial for traditional and folk music began work in 1997 in the old city fabric of Samarqand. Iran will be represented by ‘Naghsh’ group this year, with their vocalist Mojtaba Asgari and composer Amir Sharifi. The group will be performing a program entitled ‘Wrapped in her Hair’ dedicated to the music of the Qajar Era and earlier.
The organizers are the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan, Ozuna Concert Association, Uzbekistan National Radio and TV, the Composers Forum and Mayor of Uzbekistan. This will run from 25-30 August in Samarqand. The festival aims to promote and develops folk music, discover young talent, introduce national musical achievements, extend relations between nations, and consolidate mutual cultural relations between countries. The program includes a competition between the best performed traditional songs and musicology, a theoretical and scientific conference, an awards ceremony, and a performance by the top selected group.
The ‘Voice of the East’ International Music Festival is also supported by UNESCO.
