Inauguration of Tabriz 2018


The city of Tabriz in Azerbaijan Province, northwestern Iran, has been selected as the Tourism Capital of Islamic Countries 2018. The opening ceremonies for the year-long event will take place on Wednesday 25 April by President Rouhani.  

“Paris Cultural Week” in Isfahan


Following the “Isfahan Cultural Week” in Paris which was held with eight exhibitions of the arts, architecture, and handicrafts of Iran and a speech given by the mayor of Isfahan at the Assemblée nationale, the mayor has now announced the imminent opening of a “Paris Cultural Week” in Isfahan.  

World youngest and fastest visitor on Kish Island


Taylor Demonbreun, 23-year old American tourist, is planning to have herself registered as the youngest and fastest person to visit all 195 sovereign countries in the world in the Guinness World Records reference book. She is currently visiting Kish Island on her travels.  

A waterfall of different flavors


A spring bubbling up from the heart of a mountain in the scorching heat flows down to create a beautiful waterfall called “Fadami”, a 130kms southeast of Darab in Fars Province, southern Iran.  

Touring Tehran on World Heritage Day


The CEO of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism of Tehran Province announced: “On the occasion of International Day for Monuments and Sites (World Heritage Day) on 18 April, a tour of Tehran will be organized in the afternoon in the city’s old fabric.”  

Iran receives 24th int’l tourist train


The 24th international tourist train will enter Iran’s Sarakhs border town on the evening of 3 April 2018. The passengers will spend seven days visiting the Iranian provinces of Khorasan Razavi, Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Yazd, and Kerman.  


Mogherini response to Trump/Macron talks


AFP wrote that EU diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini insisted today that the current Iran nuclear deal was working and "needs to be preserved", after US President Donald Trump and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron called for a new agreement with Tehran.  

Trump agrees with Macron on Iran


Reuters in Washington reports that the U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron pledged on Tuesday to seek stronger measures to contain Iran, but Trump refrained from committing to staying in a 2015 nuclear deal and threatened Tehran with retaliation if it restarted its nuclear program.  

UN Secretary-General supports the JCPOA


At a meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister, the UN Secretary-General supported the 2015 JCPOA Iran nuclear deal and asked that all signatories remain committed to their obligations under the agreement.  

EU will seek to preserve the JCPOA without US


In an interview with Persia Digest, Richard Murphy said: “Trump's nomination of Pompeo as Secretary of State and choice of Bolton as National Security Advisor do not signal his decision to withdraw from the JCPOA.”  

Shamkhani: Iran likely to leave NPT


Javad Zarif initially mentioned the possibility of Iran leaving the NPT during his interview with the New Yorker on 22 April 2018, stating that if the US withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement, Iran would have three options to consider, one of which would be leaving the NPT. This has now been echoed by the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Shamkhani, saying that this would be the most likely option Iran will take should the US withdraw.

MoU signed between Iran and EAEU


The Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, has signed a 4-year MoU to establish a free trade zone between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union. The interim agreement was published online on the Russian government’s official website yesterday, whereby Iran and the EAEU will operate a free trade zone for a period of four years.
