2nd Fajr Handicrafts Festival Opens
The 2nd Fajr Handicrafts Festival was inaugurated at the Artists Forum yesterday by Bahman Namvar-Mothlagh, Deputy of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran.
Coffee house paintings by Ali-Akbar Sadeghi
Following the exhibition of statues by Tony Cragg at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran, the venue is now host to a series of works by Ali-Akbar Sadeghi.The exhibition takes a look at the visual culture and modern and contemporary art of Iran by displaying his seventy years of works as a painter, animator, sculptor, and poet.
Iranian researcher among world top 1%
Dr Arash Ghorbani-Choghamarani, Faculty Member and Professor of Chemistry at Ilam University, has been placed on the list of the world’s top 1% scientists by Essential Science Indicators (SIS-ESI).
Bam Citadel rooftop opens to the public

“World art masterpieces” go to Europe
Iranian painter, Farah Ossouli in an interview with Mehr News Agency about the exhibition displaying her works entitled “World Art Masterpieces” said: “The exhibition ‘World Art Masterpieces’ includes 21 paintings the titles of which have been selected based on a poem by the late Forough Farrokhzad (famed contemporary Iranian poetess).
Iranian artists entertain earthquake children
A group of Iranian artists and actors gathered together with the Kermanshah earthquake victims at the 12th Holy Defense Film Festival for students held here. The Festival was held in two matinee and afternoon sessions for a fortnight in all the earthquake stricken villages of Sarpol-e Zahab (3days), Ghasr-e Shirin (2 days), Guilan-Gharb (2 days), Dalahu (1 day), and Salas Babajani (2 days).

At Tehran’s eight auction, a piece of work by Monir Farmanfarmaian has been sold for the record price of one billion 300 million tomans. The 8th Tehran live auction of contemporary arts was held on Friday afternoon, 12 January 2018, at the Parsian Hotel.
Persian carpet showroom and shop in Jakarta
The first permanent Persian carpet showroom and shop called “Pasargade” has opened in the capital of Indonesia for handmade and machine made carpets. As reported by IRNA News Agency, this has been setup by an Iranian resident in Indonesia, providing an opportunity for those Indonesians interested in the ancient hand arts of Iran to enjoy them.
Series of quakes shake West of Iran
Today, five earthquakes shook Iran-Iraq border with a magnitude of 4.1 to 5.5 on Richter scale. This is the same region hit by a strong earthquake in November, killing hundreds of people and injuring thousands.
According to local news agencies, no serious damage has been reported so far. However, people rushed to the streets in several cities including Soomar, Kermanshah, Gilanegharb, and Ilam.

“Roots and Stones” is an exhibition of sculptures by British-German artist at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in its final days. It will wrap up on Friday 12 January 2018.
World Academy of Sciences medal for Iranian professor
Afsaneh Safavi, the full professor of Chemistry at Shiraz University won the Lecture Medal from the World Academy of Sciences of Italy. Since 1996, the World Academy of Sciences for the developing countries (TWAS) every year awards the prized TWAS Lecture Medal in science and technology to one of the members of the Academy who had a significant contribution in advancement of science and technology. All of the developing countries and a number of European and American states are members of the World Academy of Sciences.
