Currency allowed upon entering Iran

According to the Iranian Customs regulations, carrying foreign exchange by passengers is subject to the rules to be complied with by them. Accordingly, foreign currencies, bank documents such as bank checks, certified checks and traveler's checks or other transferable financial documents and anonymous securities, such as bonds, physically carried by a passenger to the country up to ten thousand euros or the equivalent in other currencies do not need to be declared. The surplus is to be declared by the passengers at the customs office upon entry, and after conducting the necessary procedures a printed receipt with a tracing code should be received.

New Iranian debit card for tourists

The Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization has announced a joint project with the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) for a prepaid debit card for tourists traveling to Iran. Funds can be added to the card in return for their currency and converted to Iranian rials (IRR).

US dollar order registrations banned in Iran

The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) announced today, 28 February 2018, that orders will no longer be registered using the US dollar. However, this is not an ex post facto law for those orders that have received their 8-digit registration licenses prior to the above-mentioned date.
