See the Louvre through the eyes of Kiarostami

If you have not been to “The Louvre in Tehran” at the National Iranian Museum yet, make an effort to go and see this brilliant little piece of the Louvre in the Iranian capital, where a painting by Rembrandt and other masterpieces from the famous museum in France are on display for all to see. Among these, you will also come across photos of the Louvre Museum shot by the late Iranian filmmaker, Abbas Kiarostami, years ago and see it through his lens.

Golestan Palace art works at the Louvre-Lens

Following the opening of the “Louvre in Tehran” exhibition by the French FM Le Drian, with 55 masterpieces of the Louvre Museum being showcased at the National Museum of Iran, it has been decided to stage a similar exhibition of the works kept in Tehran’s Golestan Palace World Heritage Site the Louvre-Lens Museum in northern France.

Nowruz exhibition of Qajar art in France

During the Iranian New Year Nowruz holidays on the spring equinox this year (21 March 2018), an exhibition of Qajar artworks will open in France titled “The rose empire– masterpieces of 19th-century art in Iran”. The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, is also traveling to Tehran next week, 5 March, to open an exhibition of artifacts brought over from the Louvre Museum to the National Museum of Iran.

Kiarostami photos of Louvre in Tehran

A collection of photos from the Louvre Museum by late Abbas Kiarostami, entitled "Look at Me” will be displayed for the first time simultaneously with the exhibition of the Louvre Museum works at the National Museum of Iran. “When we were negotiating with Louvre officials, it was decided that works of several well-known photographers worldwide at the Louvre to be displayed in Iran; the French also mentioned that a well-known Iranian artist had taken good photos of the Louvre, namely Abbas Kiarostami. We talked with Ahmad and Bahman Kiarostami for the final selection of works and determined the location of this exhibition”, Nokandeh told IRNA.

Visit the Louvre in Tehran

The “Louvre Museum in Tehran” Exhibition will open at the Iran National Museum on 5 March 2018. Jebreil Nokandeh, Iran National Museum President, announced: “The exhibition comprises over 50 works from the ancient civilizations of West Asia, Europe, and North Africa, including those of the Sumer, Assyria, Hittite, ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. It also includes a collection of paintings and printmaking and etching by prominent European artists, such as Eugène Delacroix and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot.”

80 years and the ‘Louvre in Tehran’

Tehran’s National Iran Baastan Museum is celebrating its 80th birthday this year. An incredible exhibition entitled ‘The Louvre in Tehran’ has been organized at the Museum for the occasion, showcasing sixty pieces of antiquity from the world famous French museum in Tehran for four months starting in mid-February.
