Booye Baran (music)
Artist : Mohammad Reza Shajarian (vocalist)
Composer: Hossein Yousef Zamani
Genre : Iranian orchestral music
Album : Booye baran
Year : 1999
(persia digest)- The piece Booye Baran [smell of rain] is from an album by the same name, in the traditional Persian music tonal space of dastgah-e chahargah, loyal to Iranian traditional music, but arranged for western orchestral instruments. This type of orchestration became commonplace in Iran from the time of Ali-Naghi Vaziri (from 1911 CE) and became very popular with great Iranian composers, including Ruhollah Khaleghi, Morteza Hannaneh, etc. Following the 1979 Iranian Revolution, western instruments were also widely used to perform traditional Iranian music. Yusef Zamani is one of the prominent composers in this style. Using a wide range of melodies and instruments, and a deep understanding of both western and Iranian music and their fusion has made this one of the most enduring pieces of Iranian music.
