(Persia digest)-  ‘Ancient tambour sounds’ is a festival of traditional Iranian music taking place on 11-12 September 2017 in Kermanshah. Renowned musicians attending the event can be named as Keyhan Kalhor, Shahram Nazeri, and Ali-Akar Moradi.

Tambour is a very popular string instrument played in large music groups in Iran. Towards the end of summer every year, a very large number of musicians come together in the city of Dalahu in Kermanshah Province and play the ancient sound of this old instrument. This is a huge gathering of a thousand musicians, both men and women, playing the tambour in Kermanshah that attracts large numbers of visitors from both Iran and abroad to this area.

This year, the event has been organized into a festival with the presence of master musicians, such as Keyhan Kalhor, Shahram Nazeri, and Ali-Akar Moradi, Ali-Akbar Shekarchi, Mohammad-Reza Darvishi, Ali Bustan, Pejman Haddadi, Alireza Feiz-Bashirpur, and Heidar Kaki.

The festival takes place in Goran District in the city of Dalahu in Kermanshah Province. This is the oldest center for tambour playing. Master Ali-Akbar Moradi is a renowned artist in this field in Iran and a founder of the festival.
