(Persia Digest) – The match between Persepolis of Tehran and Sepahan of Esfahan in the second half of qualifiers ended in a brawl injuring 144 supporters.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that the game which has come to be known as Iran’s El Clasico was hosted by Sepahan in Isfahan. The match ended 1-0 in favour of Persepolis, taking the team to the final and giving it the chance to win two cups in one season.
The game between the champions and runners-up was surrounded in controversy. Two on-field players were red-carded in the first 15 minutes and the match went into extra time. Isfahan’s 9-man team was awarded a penalty kick, but the captain kicked the ball over the net following which Persepolis scored the winning goal in the final seconds.

Earlier, hundreds of fans were injured in the two teams’ return match in Tehran and one lost his life. At this match in Isfahan, 144 supporters were also injured as brawls broke out and 28 had to be taken to hospital.
Some spectators inflicted severe damages on cars outside the stadium as they left, including arson, dents, breaking the windows, and damaging seats and private possessions.
Fighting also broke out between the players and the game had to be stopped for long minutes.
Persepolis will meet with Damash of Guilan at the final on Sunday.
