(Persia Digest) – Eight months have passed since the illegal arrest of an Iranian professor in the US. But no official announcement has yet been made by the US government.

Persia Digest (PD) reports that Dr Massoud Soleimani who is among the world’s top one percent scientists in hematology and stem cell studies was invited to the US by Mayo Clinic on 7 October 2019. But he was arrested in the air before landing in the US by the FBI.

The President of Tarbiat Modares University has said: “The crime of this university professor is that a chemical substance related to hematological tests was purchased in his name by the company that ordered it. He did not make the purchase directly, but is being punished for ordering it. It is ridiculous.”

Mohammad-Taghi Ahmadi added: “This is not a crime that can be filed in any US courts. This is why the FBI has postponed the court hearings twice due to a lack of evidence. They want to look for more documents.”

He said about the claim of sanctions violation by the professor at Tarbiat Modares University: “The is an absurd claim. He has made no direct purchases, just placed an order. The company must have made the purchase from the States. He was not involved. The company is responsible.”

Deputy of Research and Technology at Tarbiat Modares University, Yaghoub Fatollahi, has also said that two of professor Massoud Soleimani’s PhD students who were US residents were also arrested by the FBI, but are currently free on bail.
