(Persia Digest) – A commemorative ceremony has been held for the great contemporary Iranian poet, the late Mohammad-Hossein Shahriar in Ankara, with invitees from the Urmia and Ferdowsi universities in Iran, Kirikkale University in Turkey, and a large number of literary guests.

This was entitled “Shahriar - Poet of our common culture” on the 30th anniversary of his death. Seyyed Mohammad-Hossein Behjat-Tabrizi (1906), mainly known by his pen name Shahriar, was a notable Iranian classical poet who wrote in Azerbaijani and Persian.

He passed away on 18 September 1988 in Tehran and was buried in the Alsho’ara mausoleum of Tabriz, Azerbaijan.

The date of his death has been named as the day of Persian poetry and literature on the Iranian calendar.
