(Persia Digest) – In answer to the question of whether Europe will impose non-nuclear sanctions on Iran to satisfy the US demands on the JCPOA 2015 nuclear agreement, Deputy for Legal and International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Abbas Aragchi, said: “We have not seen a consensus by Europe yet. There are those on the Continent who believe they can convince Trump to stay in the deal by agreeing with him on other non-nuclear issues. This idea is totally wrong and will certainly backfire.”

On whether the UK, France, Germany, and Federica Mogherini had reached a serious agreement on  Iran’s missile program and its regional influence, he said: “This news is incorrect and the German Foreign Ministry has also refuted it.”

He added: “The US is currently trying to pressurize the international community and its allies on Iran to satisfy Trump’s need to destroy the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement, or amend it according to his own perceptions. Media pressures also occur alongside this new American strategy.”

Araghchi added: “Europeans understand that if they leave the JCPOA while Iran remains committed to it, they will only lose their global credibility.”

In answer to the question about discussing Iran’s nuclear program, Aragchi answered: “We have not had any discussions with any countries about our missile program, nor do we intend to have such discussions.”

Araghchi continued: “If by discussion you mean the usual political talks that we have on all subjects, this is foreign policy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs duty is to advise, consult, and exchanges opinions.”

He reiterated: “As for discussions about our missile program in the sense that both parties will sit down and reach an agreement, this is not going to happen.”
