(Persia Digest) -Marca reports that Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani has little chance of playing Friday's World Cup quarter final clash with France due to the calf injury he suffered in the last 16 win over Portugal.
The PSG man was absent from training on Wednesday and his only hope of featuring in Oscar Tabarez's plans would now appear to be as a substitute.
31-year-old Cavani felt the strain after scoring a brace against Portugal and was withdrawn before several days of intense treatment but his absence is a major blow for the team.
"He's essential given the class of player he is, for all the games he's played for us without even mentioning his current form," said strike partner Luis Suarez.
Christian Stuani of Girona is likely to replace him in the line-up, having been involved in Wednesday's session on the training pitches behind closed doors and in the gym.
