(Persia Digest) – At the signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement between Iran and China to build the provincial capitals of Shiraz (Fars Province) to Bushehr (Bushehr Province) railway line, the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development announced: “In addition to connecting Shiraz to Bushehr, our other rail projects include a line from Shiraz to Gol-Gohar (Kerman Province), from Kerman to Bandar Abbas (Hormozgan Province), and from Kerman to Chahbahar (Sistan & Baluchistan Province). On completion, a heavy road traffic load can be transferred on to the railway lines.”
Abbas Akhundi added: “The Shiraz-Bushehr line will also connect Negin Port in Bushehr Province to the railway network.”
He continued: “The project will help promote transit, reduce road fatalities, reduce fuel consumption, improve safety, and protect the environment.”
Akhundi stated that the Shiraz-Bushehr rail project will be implemented by a private domestic company jointly with a Chinese company. The Chinese government will be financing the project.
According to Akhundi: “The most important issue in financing projects is providing Iran's 15% share. I am happy to say that the Shiraz-Bushehr project has been covered by the National Development Fund of Iran in the 2018 (1397 HS) budget.
