(Persia Digest) – At a roundtable in Cannes Festival, star of the film Girls of the sun, Golshifteh Farahani, has accused Asghar Farhadi of consciously ignoring her.
At the 71st Cannes Film Festival, Everybody knows by Asghar Farhadi, Three faces by Jafar Panahi, and Girls of the sun directed by Eva Husson are competing for the Palme d’Or.
French reporter, Léa Salamé, gathered Eva Husson, Emmanuelle Bercot, and Golshifteh Farahani in a roundtable of her cultural program on the occasion of the screening of Girls of the sun.
Talking here, Golshifteh said: “Three Iranians are present in the main competition category of Cannes Festival: Jafah Panahi, Asghar Farhadi, and I. Every time Farhadi speaks, he ignores me. He speaks of Jafar Panahi, but never mentions me once; I was left out and banished because I ignored the rules…”, and she points to her chest as she talks about banishment: “For this and for my hair.”
Persia Digest reports that Asghar Farhadi and Golshifteh Farahani have worked on only one film together, About Ellie, in 2008 in which Farahani starred as Sepideh.
In the same year, Farahani was banned from leaving Iran for her role in the movie by Ridley Scott Body of lies. But she left Iran at a later date. Her acting in this film and other subsequent films without a hijab meant she never returned to Iran. Currently, she lives in France where she pursues her cinematic activities.
