Funeral of 135 Holy Defense Martyrs in Tehran

(Persia Digest) – The bodies of 135 holy defense martyrs from eight years of Iraq-Iran war have been returned to Iran after many long years. They have been put the rest in a funeral service attended by large crowds in Tehran.

Of these, 17 bodies were identified. Seven were buried in Tehran and ten in the provinces. The other bodies belong to unknown soldiers who will be welcomed in the capital of Iran and all its other cities.

Parents of martyrs took part in the ceremony to say their heartfelt goodbyes with flowers and tears.

The mothers of unknown martyrs were present at the ceremony from the early hours of this morning in the hope of receiving information about their sons.

The remains of the 135 martyrs were recently discovered by special Iranian search teams in war zones in Iraq.

Persia Digest reports that Iraq started a devastating 8-year war against Iran on 22 September 1980 led by Saddam Hussein. The eight years of resistance (1980-88) by the Iranian nation against the enemy came to be known as the Holy Defense. After the passing of many years, there are Iranian soldiers still missing. The remains of some are found in preludes in searches carried out in war zones and sent to cities across Iran for burial.
