(Persia Digest) – Prominent Iranian Kamancheh player, Kayhan Kalhor, has received the 2018 Isaac Stern Human Spirit Award.
The 2018 Isaac Stern Human Spirit Award was established in 2016 for individuals or groups who play an important part in helping humanity through music.
The Xiaoshuijing Miao Farmers Choir are the dual recipients of the Award. The Isaac Stern international competition is on par with the Tchaikovsky contest and Queen Elizabeth competition as the most credible in the world.
The violin event of the contest has been holding a biennial since 2016 for the achievements of musicians whose music has brought people closer together and helped our understanding of humanity through the medium of music. The second such award has been granted to Kayhan Kalhor this year.

The jury concluded that the works and objectives of this talented Iranian musician are mostly humanitarian, going beyond his birthplace and nationality.
Persia digest reports that Kayhan Kalhor is also active in the film track business and has worked with various musicians of different cultures, such as Erdal Erzincan from Turkey, Husain Khan from India, Yo-Yo Ma from China, Alim Qasimov from the Republic of Azerbaijan, Brooklyn Rider from the US, the New York Philharmonic, and more.
At the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, Kayhan Kalhor and the Silk Road Ensemble conducted by Yo-Yo Ma were able to receive the Best Music Award for the album “Sing me home”.
In the documentary “The Music of Strangers”, Kalhor talked about having lost his brother and entire family in the Iraq-Iran war when a rocket hit their home.
