(Persia Digest) – Speaking about US threats against exports of Iranian oil, the Naval Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (Neda) Commander said: “The Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and we will block it we are prevented from using it.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that certain media outlets such as The Washington Post and Reuters reported that today, Monday, the US will announce the end of sanctions waivers for eight countries buying Iranian oil. The Iranian President had said earlier that “if Iran is prevented from exporting oil, no oil will be exported from this region.” Some media interpreted this as an Iranian threat to close the Strait of Hormuz.
Today, IRGC Neda Commander, Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, told Al Alam Al Youm that Iran has a peaceful coexistence with the Persian Gulf states, adding: “We will not hesitate to defend Iranian waters if we are threatened. We will reciprocate all in Iran’s defense.”
He continued by saying that replacing the IRGC Commander is not in any way linked to the latest US decision to place the IRGC on its FTO list.
Admiral Tangsiri pointed to the presence of Iranian advisors on counterterrorism in Iran and Syria, stating: “Iranian presence is at the invitation of Iraqi and Syrian governments. The IRGC will not remain quiet against any oppression against Muslims.”
