Iran: No need for military base in Syria

(Persia Digest) – Senior spokesperson for the IR of Iran armed forces has emphasized that his country has no involvement in Iraq and Syria, adding: “Iran has no need for a military basis in Syria that has to be attacked.”

Sardar Abolfazl Shekarchi said: “The IR of Iran has advisors in Syria and Iran on the request of their governments and people. This is completely legal.”

He continued: “Iran and Russia are working together in their advisory capacity.”

Commander Shakarchi commented on claims of Iranian positions being targeted in Syria, saying: “We have no independent bases in Syria to be targeted.”

He added: “Syrian bases may be targeted and Iranian advisors may sustain injuries in these raids.”

Commander Shekarchi went on to say: “Talks of Iranian presence in Syria are US excuses based on Zionist zealotry.”

He said Iraq and Syria emphasize on Iranian presence in Syria, reminding: “The armies and peoples of Iraq and Syria are fighting their enemies and the Islamic Republic has no direct engagements.”

He also reiterated: “Iran needs to develop its missile power to protect its interests and prevent attacks.”

He emphasized that missiles are a basic requirement of the Islamic Republic, adding: “We will produce and test-fire missiles as deterrents according to the country’s needs.”
