(Persia Digest) – The 18th Asian Games 2018 has ended with Iran winning 20 gold, 20 silver, and 22 bronze medals. It moved down one rank to sixth as compared to the previous games.
The National Volleyball Team beat the South Korean team yesterday to go for Iran’s last gold medal at the games.
The basketball team lost to the strong Chinese team at the finals to go for silver.

Table tennis player, Nushad Alamian, was able to win bronze for Iran after 48 years of stagnation in this field.
The Iranian Water polo team also won over its Chinese adversary for bronze in penalties at the Jakarta games, breaking a 44-year taboo in this field.
Although the Iranian contingency comprised 102 more athletes as compared to the previous Asian Games in Incheon, Indonesia, it received one less gold.
In the previous Asian Games, Iran sent 276 athletes and took 21 gold, 18 silver, and 18 bronze medals. The 378 athletes participating in Jakarta took 20 gold, 20 silver, and 22 bronze medals. Iran moved down one rank, from 5th in Incheon to 6th in Jakarta.

Iran’s wrestling team received a top 5 golds this year. But Iran’s most gold medalists were in wrestling and karate with 8 medals each. There were no medalists in boxing and cycling. The weakest point of the contingency was in shooting with 19 athletes and one bronze medal.
