Iran to hold permanent handicrafts exhibition in Vienna

(Persia Digest) - Iran plans to hold a permanent handicrafts exhibition in Vienna, according to the deputy head of the Cultural Heritage Organization in charge of handicrafts.

Pouya Mohamoudian added: "Negotiations with an Austrian group of investors in handicrafts (Cerag) began in early 2018 and today we are witnessing the positive results."

“Based on negotiations held between Cerag and Iranian artisans, the latter has agreed to provide high quality handicrafts for display at the exhibition to be held at a compound of Vienna municipality,” he said.

According to Mahmoudian: “Iran's permanent handicrafts exhibition along with a gallery museum of Iranian handicrafts are to open at one of the historical palaces of Vienna in September 2019. The first consignment of handicrafts including inlaid work products has already been dispatched to Austria and the second consignment containing wooden and hand-woven products will be sent soon.”

He added: “So far, Cerag has bought 12 million euros worth of handicrafts items from renowned Iranian artists. Holding the exhibition and gallery museum marks the beginning of cooperation between the two sides which will certainly continue in the future. The opening ceremony would definitely be a grand event where artists throughout the world will participate and become familiar with their Iranian counterparts and their artworks.”
