Iran wins 2018 world abacus competitions

(Persia Digest) – Iranian students have ranked first as a team and achieved brilliant individual results to hoist Iran’s flag at the 18th PAMA Global Abacus and Mental Arithmetic International Competition held in Malaysia.

Iran participated with 35 students of whom 29 came first in the “champion”, two in the “champion of champions”, and four in the “1st winner” categories.

There were 765 children and young adults from 24 countries participating at the 18th PAMA Global Abacus and Mental Arithmetic International Competition. They had to answer complicated arithmetic questions using the abacus in the initial stages and mentally in the following stages.

Participants answered questions with the abacus in a very limited time period using their hands.

The development of mental arithmetic with the abacus is a scientific method which allows children to use their mental abilities in life.

The Iranian team of 35 comprised 21 girls and 14 boys in different age groups.

Iran is a member of the PAMA GLOBAL|PAN PACIFIC Abacus & Mental Arithmetic Association.

The 19th edition of the championships will be held in Thailand next year.
