(Persia Digest) – The news of Iranian women’s futsal defending champions wining over Japan at the AFC finals is heartwarming news for Iranian women who are working their way through the hurdles around the world.
After two years of practice, the Iranian women’s national futsal team won 5-2 over Japan to take the AFC title for the second year running at the games in Bangkok, Thailand.
By winning the title, the team also won the quota for the Youth Olympic Games.
The girls also won a dazzling three prizes for the Most Valuable Player going to Fereshteh Karimi, the top goal scorer going to Sara Shirbeigi with nine goals, and the FIFA Fair Play Award received by Captain of the team, Nasimeh Gholami, on behalf of the whole team.
The Iranians are the only team to have won the championships in its two editions. They also won the title two years ago with the winning goal scored by Fereshteh Karimi.
It is hoped that these victories will provide new paths for the presence of Iranian women in the global arena.
Sara Shirbeigi’s nine scores and hat-trick won her the title of AFC top woman goal scorer.
