(Persia Digest) – Khorasan music week will begin in Tehran tomorrow, honoring dotar player Osman Mohammad-Parast.
Khorasan music week celebrates the folk music of Iran and promotes young musicians of the genre. It will run from 5-9 March 2018, sponsored by the Institute of Iranian Arts and Culture. Five music bands will be performing at the event being held in Ferdowsi Hall os the Humanities Forum.
At the closing ceremony on Friday 9 March 2018, pioneer dotar player from Khorasan, Osman Mohammad-Parast, will be honored on his 90th birthday.
Osman Mohammad-Parast, known as Osman Khavāfi, is an old dotar player from the Khavāf region in the northeastern Khorasan Province. In 2012, his bust sculpture was unveiled for the first time by the internationally acclaimed Iranian author, Mahmoud Dowlatabadi.
Local music groups will perform here. These are “Peyvand-e Torbat” led by Abbas-Ali Esmaeili (5 March), “Zhendeh Pil” led by Ahmad Shāmi-Shahdabadi (6 March), “Saba” led by Khalil Shirazi (7 March), “Del-e Sheida” led by Gholam-Hossein Salami (8 March), and “Simorgh” led by Meisam Qomorlu (9 March). Each of the bands will perform the local music of their own region.
