(Persia Digest) – Kimia Alizadeh, taekwondo athlete in the 57kg category - selected to be the flag bearer for the Iran team at the Asian Games in Jakarta – will miss her chance due to injury.

Kimia was the bronze medal holder at the Rio taekwondo summer Olympics at the age of 18, making her the youngest medal winner in the history of Iran’s presence at the Olympic games. She was given the task of being the flag bearer for Iran at the next Asian Games.

Sadly, she sustained a torn ligament injury at the national taekwondo training camp and the doctors have prescribed months of treatment and rest for her, saying she will not recover in time for the Asian Games.

Seyed Reza Salehi-Amiri, President of the National Olympic Committee, and Masoud Soltanifar, Minister of Sport and Youth of Iran, have said a decision will be made soon on who the new flag bearer will be.
