(Persia Digest) – Deputy of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran (PMO) has announced: “Presently, shipping lines will continue their routine operations in Iranian ports.”

Commenting on reports regarding the two shipping line giants, Maersk and MSC, reviewing their work with Iran following the US withdrawal from the JCOPA, Hadi Haghshenas, added: “These are two of the twenty shipping lines that travel to Iranian ports.”

He continued: “When the cruel sanctions were imposed on the Iranian economy, Maersk and MSC left Iran. But they returned after the 2015 JCPOA agreement was signed.”

He went on to say: “Severing their routine operations with Iran will have to be their decision.”

Haghshenas said: “EU countries are keen to keep the JCPOA. It is only right that European companies should follow the lead of their own governments rather than the US.”

He stated that the final outcome depends on the decisions reached by Iran with the other signatories to the deal minus the US, and added: “Presently, shipping lines will continue their routine operations in Iranian ports.”

Haghshenas stressed: “As reported by Reuters, these two lines are reconsidering their positions in Iran following the US exit from the JCPOA. This does not necessarily mean a return to the sanctions.”
