Oman interested in free trade with Iran

(Persia Digest) - Qais Al Yusuf, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has expressed an interest in signing a free trade agreement with the IR of Iran.

Yusuf made the announcement at a meeting with Hojjat ol-Eslam Mohammad-Reza Nouri-Shahroudi, the Iranian Ambassador to Muscat, in order to expand commercial ties between the two countries.

The Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce focused on joint ventures and development of trade between Iran and Oman.

The Iranian Ambassador also expressed hope that the two countries' trade and economic relations will grow further during his term.

Nouri-Shahroudi pointed to the many geographical, religious, social, and historic ties between the two countries and stressed: “These common ties are an excellent platform for the development of economic relations.”

It was agreed at the meeting to review the issue of free trade between the two countries at the 17th meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation. The meeting will be held in Oman on 6-7 July this year.

According to the Iranian embassy in Oman, 25 private trading delegates traveled between the two Chambers of Commerce in 2017.
