Persepolis makes history, goes to AFC Champions League Final

(Persia Digest) –  Persepolis has made history by making the AFC Champions League Final for the first time in a 2-1 victory over Qatar’s Al-Sadd in the two-legged ties.

The Iranian Persepolis sports club won the second leg of the semi-finals match of the AFC Champions League in Tehran’s 100 thousand-seat Azadi stadium.

Baghdad Bounedjah scored for Al-Sadd in min16 and Siamak Nemati scored for Persepolis in min48 for a 1-1 tie. Persepolis won the two-legged matches 2-1 in the return leg to reach the AFC finals.

Following the tie between Persepolis and Al-Sadd at the semifinals and Iran’s ascend to the finals, the AFC website wrote: “Persepolis has made history opposite Qatar’s Al-Sadd by making it to the AFC finals for the very first time with an overall 2-1 victory in the two-legged matches. It will face one of the two teams - Suwon Samsung Bluewings from South Korea or Kashima Antlers from Japan - in the finals.”

The AFC website continued by giving a report of the match and description of the goals by praising Persepolis goalkeeper, Alireza Beiranvand, in this game, especially catching Xavi’s header: “Beiranvand showed his skills in the match and kept his team’s goal safe with his cool-headedness, including a brilliant reaction to Xavi’s header in min86.”
