(Persia Digest) - El Confidencial digital newspaper writes: In 2016, Iran has hosted 7000 Spanish tourists. But a lack of hotels and accommodation is hindering its tourism industry.
As reported by IRNA, the digital newspaper continues by saying that there are only two 5-star hotels in central Tehran and two in Isfahan. A 4 or 5-star hotel in Iran is on par with a 3-star hotel in Europe.
It continues by saying that, apart from accreditation standards for hotels, they all have the “full” sign hanging on their doors, whether it is off-peak or peak season. A lack of competition allows them to charge high prices in 5-star hotels no less than 250 euros per person per night.
The digital newspaper points out that the number of 7000 Spanish tourists in Iran in 2016 has doubled as compared to a similar period last year and reiterated that according to the Iranian Embassy in Madrid, the number of tourists visiting the country went beyond the 7MM 500 thousand figure. Most European visitors are from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
El Confidencial adds that, nevertheless, Iran can increase this figure by fivefold. The Embassy has also said that the Iranian government intends to build 400 4-star and 5-star hotels and its vision for 2025 is to attract 20 million tourists to the country.
El Confidencial also states that the biggest danger tourists face here is crossing the street. The roads are the only place where Iranians do not accommodate tourists in total contrast to what visitors here experience in the bazaars, gardens, mausoleums, tea houses, or all other nooks and crannies. Iranians are known for their hospitality, friendliness, and politeness. They are not accustomed to seeing westerners in their country and do their best to make this a pleasant trip for them.
