(Persia Digest) – The Iranian Football League games committee has announced that fan clubs will be dissolved and re-organized to be run by the cultural deputy of the football clubs.

According to the Chairman of the Football League games committee, Saeid Fatahi, the decision was taken following the hooliganism which has been spreading at the games.

Persia Digest (PD) reports that aggressiveness among fans has been on the increase in stadiums over the recent weeks as stakes were raised in sensitive premier league matches at the top and bottom of the table. Fighting among fans, bookies, and results being influenced by certain government officials are some of the issues dominating the football scene in Iran in the final weeks of premier league matches.

It seems that football custodians have placed the blame mainly on fan clubs by taking their latest decision.

Fatahi remarked: “Social media channels seem to be run by people who are not working in the interest of the clubs. Instead of being run by the clubs, these people are after personal gain and this must be completely eradicated.”

He reiterated: “If premier league clubs run their own official channels, much of the sideline issues will be prevented. The clubs must sue channels on social media that use their name, logo, and identities.”

It is worth noting that most football clubs in Iran are owned, sponsored, and managed by the government. With this latest decision, it seems that the fan clubs are also set to become government-owned.
