(Persia Digest) - The Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) has started work in Tehran, hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN).

Persia Digest reports that IONS has 23 permanent members and nine other states have observer status. The IRIN strategic force is a permanent member of IONS.

The Symposium has already held five of his biennial meetings in various countries and the latest one is considered Iran’s largest military summit. At the last meeting held in Bangladesh, the chair of the Symposium was handed over to the IRIN.

Commander of the Armed Forces of Iran, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, said at the opening ceremony: “The IR of Iran has never bowed to pressures by the US and its allies. It has always relied on its own strength and extended the hand of friendship to its neighboring countries.”

He added: “Undoubtedly, the traditional bipolar world order has collapsed and new powers in the West and East have emerged.”

He continued: “The United States and certain other powers are spreading disorder in the world by deploying military units to different regions and using the literature of force.”

[In reply to Mr Bayat]
Bagheri reiterated: “The US, together with Daesh, have sunk a large part of West Asia in crisis, killing and displacing civilians and innocent people.”

He said the recent strikes by the US and its allies against Syria were a clear indication of illegal behavior, and added: “They create war zones by providing arms to different countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia.”

As reported by Persia Digest, 35 high-ranking military delegations have traveled to Tehran for the 2-day summit.
