(Persia Digest) - Tajikistan's transit and economic problems are largely due to lack of access to the sea, so we are planning to use the facilities of the Chabahar port to resolve the problems in this sector, said Tajikistan's Foreign Minister.

Persia Digest (PD) reports that a meeting was held between the Iranian Minister of Energy and the Tajik Foreign Minister last night in Tehran.

At the meeting, Iranian Minister of Energy Reza Ardakanian stated that there is a very high capacity for cooperation in the water and electricity sector with all the neighboring countries. Currently, Iran has an energy exchange program with all the countries with land borders, and we intend to connect Iran's electricity grid to Russia through Azerbaijan or Armenia and Georgia, he added.

He said that about 15 percent of the total capacity of the world's hydroelectric power plants is located in Tajikistan, and added that if this capacity becomes operational, it will play an important role in the development of the region. Therefore, Iran is ready to provide Tajikistan with energy transit facilities and provide the main infrastructure for economic activities in the region.

The Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Muhriddin also stated that we consider Iran as our second country and relations between the two countries will never be broken. Currently, leading Iranian companies have a good share of the energy sector in Tajikistan and energy cooperation between the two countries will be strengthened according to plans.
