(Persia Digest) – The Head of Iran’s Tourism Organization has announced that “following cruel sanctions re-imposed on Iran and despite extensive Iranophobia propaganda, we have had seven million and 800 thousand tourists traveling to Iran, showing a growth rate of over 50 percent in this sector in 2018 as compared to a similar period in 2017.”
Ali-Asghar Munesan said that sanctions have impacted tourism directly through reduced or canceled flights, adding: “But fortunately, we have placed regional and Chinese visitors on our agenda and neutralized the effects.”
He continued by saying that the number of tourists coming in from Turkey has increased by 74 percent and other visitors coming in from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, and Oman have also increased significantly.
Munesan went on to say that extensive planning has been made to attract Chinese tourists, adding: “We plan to increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting Iran to two million.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that many tour operators, leaders, travel agents, and certain media outlets remain skeptical about the figures announced by Munesan.
