(Persia Digest) – Donald Trump has finally made good his campaign promise and signed the order to withdraw the US from the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement with Iran.
Persia Digest reports that regardless of IAEA reports on Iran’s full compliance with the JCPOA, Trump has announced: “The JCPOA was going to protect the US and our allies. But it has only helped Iran enrich uranium.”
He added: “Sanctions against Iran were lifted in return for a few weak demands in the JCPOA; but it did not prevent Iran’s movements in Syria and the rest of the world.”
With no respect for the views of other signatories to the multilateral deal, including the EU, China, and Russia, together with a majority of other countries, he commented: “If I allow the JCPOA to stand, an arms race will soon take place in the region.”
Trump continued: “Israel recently revealed documents showing that Iran was pursuing enrichment.”
Trump made his comments while the IAEA had turned down claims made by Israel earlier.
The US President went on to say: “We will impose the toughest economic sanctions on Iran to stop a country that says death to America from obtaining nuclear weapons.”
Trump claimed he has undeniable evidence that Iran has lied, saying: “Iran is the leading supporter of terrorism in the world.”
He had already acknowledged during his presidential campaign that Iran was fighting the Daesh terrorist group.
Trump alleged that the JCPOA is incomplete, and said: “The United States will exit the JCPOA. The agreement never created peace. Iran’s military budget increased by 40 percent even though it had financial difficulties.”
Immediately after his speech, Donald Trump signed the order to exit the JCPOA and reimpose nuclear sanction against Iran.
