Two Detained Actors Released

(Persia Digest) – Two Iranian actors detained on Saturday for the content of a trailer deemed inappropriate have been released on bail.

Saeed Asadi, a lecturer at Tehran University, and Maryam Kazemi, a theater director, were set free after a 30-hour detention. The news of their release was welcomed by fellow actors and artists.

It was Asadi who first stepped out of Evin prison in northern Tehran and joined his family members and friends. A few minutes later, Kazemi was also released from Qarchak prison in Varamin in southern Tehran.

Persia Digest reported that the two were detained on Saturday after the release of Kazemi's new play trailer, Dream of Summer Night, which the authorities believe contains inappropriate scenes including dancing.

Dream of Summer Night is currently played on the main house at City Theater.

Kazemi is a director and writer, and has played in many theatrical and TV movies as well as plays. She is the founder and head of "Independent Theater Group" and has received many acting, writing and designing awards from both theater and film festivals.

Saeed Asadi is a director, producer and actor who has graduated in film studies from the US. He is currently the manager of City Theater Complex, the main theater house in Iran.
