Two Iranians competing for the Palme d’Or

(Persia Digest) - The list of films featured in the main sections of the Cannes Festival was announced, and in addition to Asghar Farhadi, who opens the festival with the film "Everyone Knows", Jafar Panahi is also competing with the film "Three Faces" in the competition section for the Palme d’Or.

Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbas is also featured with the movie "The Border", representing Swedish cinema, in the Prix Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival.

In the competition section, 18 films compete for the Palme d’Or, including Farhadi and Panahi’s films.

Jafar Panahi will attend Cannes for the fourth time. He previously won the Caméra d'Or for "The White Balloon" and won the Prix du Jury and Prix Un Certain Regard for "The Red Gold". Moreover, "This Is Not a Film" was first screened in the Cannes Film Festival. Awards such as Venice’s Golden Lion, Berlin’s Golden Bear, Cannes’ Caméra d'Or, and Locarno’s Golden Leopard and ... are among the awards Jafar Panahi has won in different festivals.

Asghar Farhadi will attend the Cannes Film Festival for the third time after having appeared with the movie "Le Passé" and "The Salesman". He has won two Academy Awards in 2012 and 2017, Berlin’s Golden Bear, Best Screenplay in Cannes, the Golden Globe in 2012, the César Award in 2012, and more.

The 71st edition of Cannes Film Festival will open on 8 May with the screening of "Everyone Knows", the latest film by Asghar Farhadi, and will continue until 19 May.
