(Persia Digest) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, presenting the budget for 2018 at the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament), spoke about the situation in the region and the 2015 JCPOA Iran nuclear deal. He also mentioned two ways of improving relations with Saudi Arabia.
He expressed hope for a safe Yemen in the future, and said: “All our efforts are aimed at regional security. That is not to say that all our safety and security issues have been resolved. But, the main bases of terrorism have collapsed.”
The Iranian President added: “We must be economically, politically, and culturally active in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and all other neighboring countries and those in the region and Asia. We need to promote our exports. If Saudi Arabia decides to stop the bombardment of Yemen as of today and stop bowing to Israel and start counting on its own people and its neighbors, we will have no problems with it. We ask Saudi Arabia to stop bombing Yemen and stop begging Israel to establish relations. We have no quarrels with this country and wish to have good relations with them. They can be the initiators of such a move.”
On Iran’s nuclear agreement with world powers, Rouhani reiterated: “Our relations with the world is based on our word. We will not go back on our world like the US. We may not commit easily, but once we have signed we will stand by it and remain committed. We also declare to the US, Europe, and other countries that we are committed to the JCPOA for as long as they remain committed to it. We will never abrogate the deal. Of course, should our partners choose to repeal the agreement, we have no worries and have prepared the path forward.”
