(Persia Digest) - The head of the Civil Affairs Committee of the Iranian Parliament has announced the start of investigations in aircraft purchase agreements, saying: “It is likely that the American team involved in checking the status of the transportation industry during the signing of contracts by Iran was there to spy.”

Mohammad-Reza Rezaei-Kouchi stated: “An American team joined investigations on the Iranian transport fleet was made up of experts some of whom were apparently military personnel. I have as yet no accurate information about the process of obtaining licenses from the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) for the sale of airplanes to Iran and this should be followed up. But what is clear is that when a team from the US is dispatched to Iran to assess our transport fleet, we must assume that they are also charged with a spying mission.”

He continued: “I am not aware if this team was monitored or not; but it is certain that a US interest is infiltration in various sectors in Iran. Our security teams must have been aware of the situation and monitored their moves in Iran.”

He pointed out to some existing ambiguities in the aircraft purchase contracts, saying: “Unfortunately, nothing has been mentioned about after sales services and parts in the contracts. With the US withdrawal from the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal, the new planes have no backup and parts cannot be procured for them.”

He added: “Other issues are also being investigated about whether these aircraft were purchased at their real price and whether the interest paid for purchasing these essentially have economic justification.”

He went on to say: “Investigation results will be announced in one month.”
